About Video Gaming
Our Position on Christians Playing Video Games
We are aware that Christians hold to different convictions on secondary and tertiary matters, including whether Christians are permitted to play video games. We believe friendly debates among believers can be edifying (Proverbs 27:17) and God-glorifying. Our conviction is that video gaming is not inherently sinful, but something that can be enjoyed appropriately as part of reasonable Christian liberty.
Video games cannot sin, but they can contain sinful content (blasphemy, swearing, idolatry, etc.) and could potentially influence a person to engage in sinful behaviour themselves.
If video gaming is negatively impacting your ongoing sanctification, or causing you to shirk Christian responsibilities such as:
- Prayer
- Bible reading
- Relationships
- Church attendance and fellowship opportunities
- Evangelism opportunities
- Work
Then you would do wise to discuss this further with your pastor as soon as possible.
Balancing Liberty and Wisdom
As a ministry, we must clearly distinguish between Biblical doctrine and our opinion. We walk a fine line in encouraging or discouraging games based on their moral and spiritual content. We pray we never confuse readers, become a stumbling block to fellow believers (Romans 14:13-14, 1 Corinthians 8:9), or negatively impact anyone’s walk with the Lord (Matthew 18:5-7). If we should fall short, please use our contact form to reach out and offer correction.
We recommend reading our ‘About Reviews‘ page next to learn more about our review methodology and how we determine which games to cover.
